Love This Village Let’s Not Allow the “few” to Ruin it for US! Landlords Take Note

Well, I am sorry that my first post to this board has to be a downer! To be honest I didn’t know it existed until a friend suggested I post here. I have lived in Warsaw most of my adult life. I am a proud homeowner (previous renter too) and am here to voice concern over landlords. I know there are many wonderful landlords in Warsaw who take care of their property and make sure their tenants make good neighbors. But what about those who do not? They don’t have to live with them so they are not so quick to act when there is a problem. We have a “right to peaceful enjoyment” just as much as the other tenants in the building do, yet the adjoining privately owned homes don’t have such a lease agreement with the landlord. I would like to know what can be done short of repeated telephone calls to the police, who I believe have better things to do than “parent” loud and disrespectful adults and children, only to have to ask them to return again and again. I am beginning to think Landlords should have to be licensed. I think they have an additional responsibility to the residents of this community other than just alledgedly keeping up their properties like the rest of us. I would suggest contacting the landlord when you can’t work it out with the tenant, however they sometimes just patronize and let it go on. I was extremely unhappy to have my taxes on a highly taxed street raised when I can’t enjoy my home due to people’s behavior an entire street over. I know there are also property owners who don’t make good neighbors however, in some cases there are 3 not so good neighbors. I was not aware of this rental property-I have wonderful neighbors all up and down MY street but this noise and vulgarity, unleashed dogs and their incessent barking day and night have disgusted myself and those around me. I wish I had not purchased a home in what is thought of as a “desireable location” (see comment re: taxes above) because I have no way of experiencing"peaceful enjoyment” when I come home from work. It’s sad when you’d rather relax at the office. Again, these rental properties are not even on my street. Do Landlords need special use permits? Do they pay additional fees for the right to make money from a home in addition to the taxes and income tax? Unfortunately the landlords I am referring to more than likely won’t read this, one doesn’t even live in Warsaw. Feel free to comment. I am not a difficult person to get along with but I do wish I could enjoy my home. I worked very hard for it. I don’t think the police should have to monitor/control the landlord’s responsibilities.

The recent winner of the Kentucky Republican primary for the upcoming Senate elections, Rand Paul, the son of famous libertarian Ron Paul, has gone and put his foot in his mouth. His meaning was somewhat lost within the shuffle, to be fair. He was in an interview with Rachel Maddow, and he appeared to be implying he was in complete favor of getting rid of the Civil Rights Act. He did clarity what he meant later, and he visibly stated he would not attempt to repeal the Civil Rights Act.

After winning the Republican Primary to run for United States Senate, Rand Paul was invited on “The Rachel Maddow Show.” Like father like son, Rand Paul has a generous libertarian streak, and he had been critical of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, stating he doesn’t believe government should take control of how private business run. And Rachel Maddow clearly wasn’t going to let that go lightly, especially on her show. The Civil Rights Act is certainly a touchy topic, and saying the wrong words can get any candidate on a quick slide to having the additional cash they have in campaign coffers go to waste.

He did scramble to clarify what he meant. He went on to state that out of the 10 components of the act, only one he finds to his dislike, which is the one concerning business practices. He is a Tea Party dearest, one who has already earned a Sarah Palin endorsement (though backing a candidate depending on approval from a previous governor that did not complete one term seems a bit reckless), and is evidently after the populist right wing for votes. According to the Christian Science Monitor, he celebrated his victory at one of the poshest Kentucky country clubs before appearing on “The Rachel Maddow Show.”

Rand Paul did not do himself any favors by saying something negative about the Civil Rights Act. Of course he did clarify the reasoning behind what he was saying, which is depending simply on his opposition against excessive government intervention into the private sector. Intrusions from the government often benefit not a soul other than the government, but sometimes, intrusions are made when doing nothing would permit the continued existence of an egregiously foul practice, which is something that’s banned under the Civil Rights Act.
